Designers who suffer from Content Constipation…

Your guts feel like you’ve just plugged yourself into an inflatable bed pump.

It feels like you’ve eaten a whole bag of kiwifruit.

You’ve got a case of the bargalitiis (look it up).

Your new pants are popping off at the button - and your size large tee shirt is wishing it was an XL.

You’ve got a clear case of the content constipation.

Probably on par with the real constipation you feel when you really do need to make a deposit in the bank of…. (Well you know the rest).

I get it every Monday.

I feel that feeling, the feeling of - oh gosh what am I going to write about today.

That anxious feeling that hangs around until I get that piece of content out into the wild.

Because I don’t want to create shit, filler content just for the sake of ‘another piece for my feed yay!

I don’t want to make a throwaway piece of garbage that adds no value to anyone.

And I don’t subscribe to the idea of content batching, where you plan and write all your content in a few days and then toss it away for the month..

.. ok lets see, funny content piece - check, silly reel - check, deep and meaningful - check, pointing at the caption with a mad face - check.

I truly believe as designers if we want to build a meaningful personal brand that allows more of our dream clients to find us we have to be authentic with our content, put some heart into it.

We have to have the mindset of ‘this could be the most valuable piece of content that someone sees today’.

We have to ask ourselves, who is this for? What do I want the viewer to do after they see this post? How do I want to them to feel?

What do I want them to know about me (maybe not that you get a blocked bottom - jks lol).

I believe that if we write from our hearts then we will attract people who feel, believe and see things the way we do.

Who have the same outlook on life, the same moral compass.

So I get that feeling of ‘where do I start..’

My advice? What made you laugh on the weekend? What weird thing happened to you? How did you help a client last week? What did you learn last week?

Tell that story (and avoid toilet talk at all costs).
